So while wrapping up a session with the Have knotz (bobby and malik-16) harlem own Esso came thru for a feature on Have Knotz new mixtape Bobby and malik-16 puts Esso to the test. As long as we have been listening to Esso we never heard him spit fast well faster then his normal laid back flow this fast flow is also known as "double time". So Esso being a emcee stepped up for the challenge he asked for the Gucci Mane "Lemonade" beat. We threw it on and well just watch what happens now when any rappin is involved I (komp'L) has to get into the action so of course i spit some lite bars also just watch tell me what u think

Independent New York label Gemstars are pleased to announce the up and coming release of their mixtape Channel Surfing/Gimme That from lead off artists Komp'l and Bobby.
Linking with acclaimed DJ and Justo Award Winner DJ Furious Styles, the duo have taken it back to the basics with this project, utilizing some of the most recognized beats from the last couple of years to lay their verses over.

Gearing up for his sophomore release, Gemstars LLC recording artist Bobby is aiming for a lasting impression on the Hip-Hop scene with this offering, Bobby's World is an insight into the mind of this uptown rapper who is armed with a generous vocabulary and an effortless flow.
2 Steppin', the first track to be unleashed from the project which will be available next month caught the rappers attention with its 'simple loop and persistent bounce.'
"I wanted a track that allowed me to connect with different audiences and I think this is it," Bobby explains. "It was fun to record and the hook came out of nowehere to be honest, I mean I was two stepping around the studio when I was writing it, so after that it pretty much wrote itself."
The song produced by Gemstars LLC in-house production mastermind, Marv was put together in a matter of minutes. "This beat was actually done for an online beat competition so it was put together really fast," Marv shares. "I wasn't really too keen on the track but Bobby took it from the archives and made a dope song with it."

At time mixtapes can be either saturated or lacking, neither is true for Mickey Factz’s 2010 debut EP “The Dark Phoenix: Alpha.” Although one may say it lacks in number of tracks it makes up for it with it lyrical content .The EP Differentiates itself from others with it balanced diffusion of different genres from jazz to alternative with the stamp of Mickey’s root… HIP-HOP!!!. The EP was overall refreshing, something new and not expected from today’s rappers.

Factz was able to draw art on the instrumental canvas, the ability to express oneselve’s mood, thought, and insight through a medium (the medium being music) is true art and that is what makes Mickey a true ARTIST.

The saddest thing in music is when we sometimes forget about great records over time. I myself was recently making a “top ten hip hop album of the 00’s” list and it’s only natural to think of the more recent joints than the great ones that dropped earlier in the decade. Now lets take it back to the 1990s. The rap scene that originated in New York had fled to California when “Gangsta Rap” kicked off during the N.W.A. era. With big monumental records from Dr Dre & Snoop Dogg the East Coast had lost almost all momentum and declined in sales; nearly vanishing from the charts completely. This ushered in the quintessential New York renaissance in with classic records from Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Wu Tang-Clan, Jay Z, Mobb Deep & Black Moon. Now with these onslaught of classics it would be easy for many to have easily forgotten about “The Sun Rises In The East” (1994), the debut album by the East New York, Brooklynite Jeru The Damaja but it definitely should be one record in every hip hop heads collection. With hip hop deity DJ Premier on the boards; this is one of the best-produced albums of that decade – alongside the sick production of the RZA, Havoc, Q-Tip, Pete Rock & Large Professor. Jeru’s unique flow & powerful conscious [& almost poetic] lyrics brings a very original sound to the table & the Damaja is surely no slouch on the mic. All throughout the album, Jeru's constant theme of self elevation and knowledge is something that was not really heard then or even now in the present day - making this record a true breath of fresh air. One of my personal favorite cuts on the record has to be “Can’t Stop The Prophet” in which Jeru talks about his battles with Ignorance, Hatred, Envy & Jealousy over some of the meanest drums i've ever heard over a dope beat courtesy of Mr. Premiere.

Its a shame that "The Sun Rises On The East" never got the recognition it deserved; I even heard many corporate record stores pulled the album off the shelves because of the menacing artwork on the cover of the twin towers burning, after 9/11... This album is definitely a gem & with his interesting themes, delivery and funky flow is an experience all in itself. So if you haven’t already, fight ignorance one track at a time with Jeru for old times sake; they just don’t make albums like this anymore…

eLZhi - The Leftovers Unmixedtape - It's Dope, It Choked

Detroit’s golden child has finally blessed us with a new release, the highly anticipated “The Leftovers Unmixedtape”. For those who don’t know, or have been living under a rock lately, eLZhi is a member of the legendary Slum Village group and has recently gone into solo endeavors with his critically acclaimed debut album “The Preface” in 2008. While the album flew under the radar to most, it was arguably a modern classic and solid contender for 2008 album of year. With his sharp wordplay & complex flow I can honestly say I was excited for eLZhi’s new release and he definitely didn't disappoint. The aptly titled “Leftovers” mixtape has a couple of remixes to tracks off of the Preface such as Colors & Talking in my Sleep as well as some tracks that were just left off completely. With some stellar production from Black Milk & Jake One and dope concepts from eLZhi the Leftovers mixtape doesn’t really let down at all, except for the fact that a lot of the tracks are too short. The dopest track of all to me had to be the Colors Remix, a simple yet well executed concept of flipping colors in his bars. Such a simple concept in the wrong hands would be a complete flop and totally corny but eLZhi comes through and delivers:

In conclusion, the mixtape isn’t quite the Thanksgiving feast that the Preface was, but you can’t front like you don’t eat those Leftovers for days. This will keep the true Hip Hop fans appetite stuffed – you might need to loosen up the belt. eLZhi has put the mixtape on his website as a free download but is also selling physical copies.
